What is the Difference Between the Classic and the Universal?

Both are waterproof wraps for using over 2 part cloth nappy systems.

The Universal can be used over a wider range of nappies (see below) and comes in only 2 sizes.

The Classic can be used with lots of nappies and comes in 4 different sizes.

Both wraps fasten with poppers.

Washing Guide

We recommend that you wash your GEN-Y nappy covers on hot before use – this will set the colour in the fabric and help to prevent colour transfer and fading.

You can wash you GEN-Y nappy wraps with your other nappies, using 1/3 of your normal detergent.

Do not use a detergent that has optical brighteners, enzymes, added dyes, perfumes or whiteners as these may damage your nappies or wraps.

In particular, we suggest that you do NOT use:

Bold 2 in 1
Any brand with added fabric softener

The wraps can be line or tumbled dried – if you normally line dry, we do recommend putting them through the tumble dryer once a month to prolong the life of the PUL.

What Kind of Nappies Can I Use with GEN-Y Wraps?

Classic GEN-Y wraps can be used with fitted nappies, prefolds (fastened) or terry squares.  They do not work well with unfastened prefolds or inserts.

Universal GEN-Y wraps work with 2 part nappy systems, including inserts, prefolds, fitted nappies and disposable inserts.

Will GEN-Y Nappy Covers Wick?

If you use a properly fitting real nappy and adjust the wrap correctly, you should not get any leaks or wicking.  Both the Classic and the Universal are made from waterproof PUL with an unlaminated cotton top to prevent wicking.

On the Universal, Why is There an Extra Snap?

You will notice that there is an extra snap on the bottom of the middle row of rise snaps on the Universal wrap (the ones that change the height of the wrap).

When the wrap is on the smaller rise setting and you are using trim inserts, you can snap the middle snap down further than the side snaps to take the excess fabric out, giving a very trim fit.

When using on a larger child, with the rise unsnapped, only snap the middle snap.

I am Confused About Sizing

As both the Classic and the Universal fit over so many nappies, it can be hard to choose which size you should buy, especially if your baby could fit into 2 sizes.

If you are using prefold or slim fitting nappies, the smaller size will give a neater fit but will be grown out of faster.

If you use larger nappies or for nighttime, you would be better buying the larger size.

We are always happy to exchange unused, unwashed wraps within 30 days of purchase.

Cotton covers will shrink a little on the first hot wash so do allow for this when deciding whether to change size as we cannot exchange or refund on washed or used wraps.

Minkee wraps will not shrink and we do not recommend sizing up in Minkee covers.
