How to Use Flip Reusable Nappies

Friday, 28 January 2011

Wondering how to fold and use your Flip washable nappies?  It really is very simple as our easy to follow guide shows.

If you have organic cotton inserts, wash them several times to ensure they are fully absorbent.  You don’t need to use washing powder or dry between washes.

Adjust the nappy cover to the size required:

Adjust the insert as required:

Organic cotton insert: can be folded one way for a newborn and the other way to make a longer pad for older baby.

Stay-dry insert: follow the embroidered folding lines on the insert:

Fit the insert under the flaps at the back and front of the cover.  The flaps will hold the insert securely in place.

If you are using organic cotton inserts, you may like to use a paper liner, most parents don’t need to with the stay-dry inserts.

Put the nappy on your baby just as you would a disposable nappy, checking the legs openings and waist to ensure a good fit.

When you are ready to change your baby, toss the used insert into your nappy bucket (you can flick any solids straight down the loo).

Wipe out the nappy cover and pop in a new insert before replacing on your baby.

You can reuse the nappy cover up to 5 times before washing.

Overnight/older babies and toddlers:
We recommend using 2 inserts to ensure maximum absorbency.

Washing Instructions

  • Store your used nappies in a bucket with a lid – don’t use water or nappy soak.
  • Flip any solids off the nappy and into the loo before you put them in your nappy bucket.
  • Wash at 60 degrees (or lower if you like).
  • Use only 1/3 of the amount of detergent normally used.
  • Make sure you use a non-bio detergent that does not have perfumes, dyes, whiteners, brighteners or enzymes.
  • Do NOT add fabric conditioner, baking soda, bleach or vinegar.
  • Make sure all detergent is removed from the nappies – sometimes an extra rinse helps to make sure there is no detergent build up.
  • The insert can be tumble dried on LOW – but line drying is better.
